How to Use

Drop in your location and the page shows where the sun is. The background lights up from whichever side the sun's on. The numbers handle the rest — direction, height, today's sunrise and sunset. Pretty much it.

  1. Share your location — Tap "See Live Sun Position" and your browser handles the rest. Or punch in latitude and longitude by hand.
  2. Watch the glow — The page tints from whichever side the sun's on. Bright and white-ish? Midday. Orange and dim? Getting close to sunrise or sunset.
  3. Look at the numbers — Direction in degrees plus the compass point. How high the sun is above the horizon. When it rose, when it sets. All in your local time.
  4. Check back later — Updates every 30 seconds. Pop in throughout the day and you'll see the sun crawl across.

Things people ask

The glow comes from whichever side the sun's actually on. East? Right side of the screen. Overhead? Centered up top, brighter. The color shifts too — deep orange near sunrise and sunset, washing out to warm white when the sun's high. That part's matching real daylight.
Because the sun's position changes everywhere on Earth. Sydney's noon sun and Berlin's noon sun are nowhere near each other. We default to London if we don't know — you can preview the page — but the real numbers need your spot. GPS or typed-in coordinates, either works.
It's how high the sun is, measured in degrees above the horizon. 0° means it's sitting right on the horizon — sunrise or sunset. 90° is straight overhead. Negative numbers? The sun's already dropped below, so it's nighttime or close to it.
Yes. The sun's below the horizon at night, so the glow turns off and the page stays dark. You still see the numbers though — how far below the horizon the sun is, plus today's sunrise and sunset. Handy if you're counting hours till light.
No. Cloudflare tags every request with a rough city based on IP — that's how we make a first guess before you do anything. It's not tracking, it's already in the request. And if you tap 'See Live Sun Position' for real coordinates, those stay on your phone. Nothing hits our servers.
